Maybe Baby, You Should See The Buddy Holly Story”

July 4, 2013 Denise A. Theatre Reviews 0

As I write this revue, I hear “Rave On” playing from the jukebox in the movie “Pleasantville” and am again reminded of the impact that Buddy Holly had on music, culture, and performance. He was a true genius and innovator and deserves a full-blown show in his honor!

Puppetry In Motion At Strathmore

On this Sunday afternoon an enjoyable experience with strings attached; literally not figuratively speaking of course. A puppet show! It was the Cashore Marionettes presentation of Simple Gifts. Joseph Cashore a professional puppeteer has performed all over the world, he crafts all his puppets by hand and even designs their mechanics.

I am surprised that it wasn’t a sold-out show. I say, plan early for 2014 because once the word gets out, this will be sold-out… “Grease, is the word”!! We had “Summer Lovin'”, we were “Hopelessly Devoted, and we all were “Born to Hand Jive”!

They’ve Done it again with The Mikado

The Gilbert and Sullivan Players came back to Wolf Trap this year to dazzle with “The Mikado”. Once again, NYGASP did not disappoint! They are truly one of the best and most consistent troupes I have ever seen! “The Mikado” is one of the best known from the Gilbert and Sullivan canon and they way NYGASP perform it, you could see it every year and never get tired of it.

Don’t Be an Idiot, Go See american IDIOT at the Hippodrome

Green Day’s american IDIOT (Work Light Productions) plays at the Hippodrome through Sunday, May 12th.
I would typically warn that this is a non-Equity cast, but this cast proves that talent doesn’t have to be in a union to exist!

I Wanna Rock…and I Did!!

The Filene Center, in what was the best weather of the season, rocked the night away. I won’t compare the show to the movie and performance versus performance because that isn’t fair. I will say however, that the story that the movie brought made waaaaaaay more sense.

The King and I at Wolf Trap

September 5, 2012 Dean Rogers Theatre Reviews 0

Well, as boring as my title is, that’s how boring “The King and I” was. I’m not going to go too far with this revue because I know that I was in the minority! I will start by saying that, “The King and I” is a show that I have avoided performing in, for my whole career. It is usually a show that I like to watch occasionally, but after seeing this incarnation, I do not need to see it again for a long time! After seeing the non-union production of, “South Pacific” earlier in the season at Wolf Trap, I expected this union production to blow me away and it barely kept me awake! Right from the get-go, I was bored.

How to Train Your Dralion in Charm City

August 23, 2012 Dean Rogers Theatre Reviews 0

For those who do not know, I am a bonafide fan of Cirque Du Soleil. Ever since my first experience in 2007 with the production of Kooza in National Harbor, I wanted to witness more of what this amazing circus troupe from Canada can do. Since Kooza, I have seen three other productions (Ovo, Totem, and Quidam) in the DC/Baltimore Metro areas. Every show delivers outstanding performances that are beyond words. I cannot believe what appeared before my eyes last night when I sat in my seat at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore. Only months since the MJ Immortal Tour, Cirque is BACK with the production that launched the Cirque connection for Charm City way back in 2003. Mix fascinating doses of western and eastern cultures with live music, astonishing acrobats, and crazy comedic clowns and you’ve got Dralion!
