The coming of age story will follow late Tejano singer, Selena Quintanilla’s journey as her dreams come true, and the many life-changing choices on the singer’s journey to success. Ricardo Chavira (“Desperate Housewives”), Gabriel Chavarria (THE PURGE), Noemi Gonzalez (“The Young and the Restless”), and Seidy Lopez (TRAINING DAY) will be starring as the rest of the Quintanilla family.
She is making her series regular television debut as “Young Selena” – let’s meet Madison Taylor Baez
Tell us about the role you will play in “Selena: The Series”? That is coming up on Netflix?
I play young Selena! Young Selena is a fun and loving girl. She’s just starting out as a singer and her dad made her the leader of the family band. Selena and all of her family are trying to find success in music to get through all of the family’s struggles.
This is your first big role. Did you ever imagine that you get it? Were you scared?
Well, I was pretty nervous and this is Selena. I was just so excited to take on this big role and honestly, Selena & I are very much alike if you think about it. We’re both singers! We both started out singing at a very young age. I started singing at the age of two and I think she started singing at age eight. Our dads introduce us to music. We both started learning Spanish at the same age and we’re both performers!
Tell us about your audition
Well, the audition process took about three months. First, I went into the actual audition and felt really prepared. I think I did pretty good. Then, about three months later, I got a callback and had to do two scenes & two songs. I felt really good based on their reactions and three months later I got the call that I booked it.
Selena is a very loved artist around the world. What were your feelings when you were interpreting her story? How do your parents feel? I hear there they are big fans of Selena.
Well, I felt amazing being able to play that role. She’s one of my idols now and I just felt amazing to play her. I was super excited for my parents too because I know they love Selena and I love Selena now. I just feel so happy and thankful too that I’m able to play this role.
How was your experience on set? What was the part did you enjoyed most?
Well, my experience on the set was amazing! I got to meet other cast members. I met the director. We hung out a lot and got to hang out in each other’s dressing rooms. We even got to hang out in the hair and makeup trailer.
One of my favorite memories was the very first scene, it was a family dinner. The cast and I really got to bond. I feel like that was a really good scene and it seems like the start of the whole thing because we got to all say something about each other.
You not only act, you sing too! Tell us about yourself and what are your other hobbies.
Well, I am a singer and I’m actually known as “The Anthem Girl” because I sing the National Anthem for the L.A. Rams, The Harlem Globetrotters, The L.A. Galaxy soccer team, the L.A. Dodgers, basically everywhere. I also love to play the piano, rock out on my electric guitar and play the saxophone. I also love to hang out with my friends & cook. I love to paint, and hang out with my dogs.
At your young age, you do charity work, why?
I just love helping people. I love all the emotions and stuff and the feelings that I give to other people. I just want to share my work with others and inspire other people to follow their dreams.
So let’s talk about this quarantine. Why do you miss more? What did you think about the new normal that’s coming up and what is the first thing you’re going to do when this is over?
Well, it’s kind of surprising but I actually kind of miss school because I just miss all of my teachers and hanging out with all my friends at school. You know we would play soccer. I really miss the moments at school where I get to hang out with all my friends. Actually, I’m kind of looking forward to this new normal because I think I’m gonna start planting gardens. That’s a new hobby for me. I really get to relax and work on some new songs. When this is over, I’m gonna call all my friends and we’re probably gonna go to Dave & Buster’s and have a huge celebration party.
Why shouldn’t we miss this upcoming Selena series?
Well, nobody can miss this series because like Selena and if you don’t know about Selena and she is amazing and you’ll get to learn something new about Selena and I’m in it so yeah.
