While it maybe over fifty days until Halloween, that doesn’t mean the spirit of Halloween cannot be celebrated early. If you’re a fan of the 1993 classic Hocus Pocus, then you better believe that the Sanderson sisters are back and three of the best queens have brought them to life for a night of fun, pure adultered rated spooky fun. Life’s a witch and the new Hokus Pokus Live is a great way to spend your evening!

Written and directed by Ginger Minj, this take on our favorite Disney Halloween flick is a great love letter to the people who grew up knowing the Sanderson Sisters and the songs they try to entrance on the little children in all of us. After a three hundred year slumber, the Sanderson trio of Winifred (Ginger Minj), Sarah (JuJubee) and Mary (Sapphira Cristal) have awaken to pursue their mission – to be young and live forever by draining the lifeforces of children. Only to find out that they have awake in the town of Salem but of our Nation’s Capital – 332 years later. With the help of Winifred’s fiancé, Billy Butcherson, the witches try their best to be young, have fun and adjust to the life of modern day DC. Of course, drag queen hilarity and pure insanity ensues.

For the trio to sing ELO’s Evil Woman was a great transition and describes who they are – three “evil” women and if you didn’t know, they carry the fans to declare. For three lucky fans of the show, they will own a show use “Evil Woman” fan. With a simple flick of the fans, the sisters caught us in a trance. To see the queens bring HPL to the DC area was a real treat. You can tell that Ginger, Jujubee and Sapphira are dearest fans as they have put their heart, soul and energy into the roles that you instantly forget they are among the best queens from “Drag Race”.

During one of the many brilliant performances, Mary (aka Sapphira) displayed some serious rap skills and killer moves. While Sarah (Jujubee) twerks and Winifred had the vocals during the stew poo scene. And HPL show would not be complete without everyone’s favorite reincarnated boy, Billy played by Landon Cider. Landon also displayed some dance moves especially it was a thrill to see all move to beat of “Thriller”! You had to be there to see it.

Some of the highlights of the show included the old “Come Little Children” and the way Jujubee delivered the sizzle and made it her own. When you add Sapphira’s operatic voice to the mix, you have witness brilliant chemistry for the eyes and ears. Only those three can the “FAFO” into a joke and make it work so well with the crowd.

When Mary, Sarah, & Billy got drunk because “an apple serpent” named Siri informed them that it would make them feel young and live forever, the audience got to see some debauchery that only the three can pull off. When they ask the great Siri what song can make them feel they can live forever, she named the perfect song. I’ll let you figure out the artist and the song. The best part was having the audience sing along. Then we see to see Winifred get “One Way or Another” before she partake the potion to end the first act.

The second act continued to see how far our gang will go to “be young and beautiful forever”. One of the quotes from Winifred summed up the experience we had perfectly, “Live life while you are alive” and we couldn’t agree more.
