The family-friendly DC attraction will unveil the brand new wax likeness with the help of the Frederick Douglass National Historical Site

Madame Tussauds Washington, D.C. is honored to present the never before seen wax figure of abolitionist Frederick Douglass as they kick-off their tradition of celebrating Black History Month with some of the most iconic Civil Rights leaders of our nation’s past. The brand new figure will be officially unveiled in a ceremony at Madame Tussauds on Thursday, February 5 at 10:30 a.m. Onsite to help introduce the figure will be the curator of the Washington DC’s Frederick Douglass National Historic Site.

Frederick Douglass, a noted abolitionist and social reformer, authored the incredibly powerful Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave in 1845. Although his narrative was published 170 years ago, Douglass’ words still inspire those who continue to read his work. To accurately depict Douglass’ likeness, Madame Tussauds Studio Artists referenced countless photos, portraits and written references to his appearance. The figure is based off of his recognizable 1879 seated portrait featuring Victorian Era clothing and styling
