Tay Beckham has a strong voice and she’s not afraid to use it. The young songstress started singing at family gatherings, church and a singing competition. She later made her television debut on NBC’s The Voice, where R&B singer Usher mentored her. Now she has a new single called Excuses and it is hot like fire.

Everyone has that one song we listen to when we’re going through a rough patch in our relationships or when we experience the heartache of a lifetime. Excuses is that one song. Tay sings from the heart and tells us how her love has disappointed her time and time again and tries to give her “a million excuses”. The slow beat and smooth sound of the music will have us feeling Tay’s pain along with her while rocking to the beat of the song at the same time. The softly played piano and finger snaps in the song make this rhythm and blues hit the soulful and moving tune that it is. The hook expresses every excuse every one has ever heard from “I’ve been busy” to “she’s just a friend”.

The cool thing about this single is that we get an inside look at what it’s like to be young and in love and what heartache really is from another point of view. This single was wonderfully done and a song that everyone can get into. Although it is a sad song, the piano and drumbeats combined with Tay’s vocals make this a beautiful and amazing song to listen to. Each verse and the hook are filled with powerful emotion and everyone will love this song for that reason.

The world is ready for Tay Beckham and her awesome vocal styling. She says that “pop and R&B are my true musical calling”, and I completely agree with her. It goes without saying that R&B is truly the ideal genre for her. Excuses is one that will tug at your heartstrings, but is also a nice slow jam. I’m excited to see what else Tay has in store for her fans.
