SG Lewis has been described as a “musical wunderkind” and it’s definitely not hard to see why. The 20-year-old singer recently released his EP Shivers, which includes the now famous single Warm. The single appeared in an episode of HBO’s Ballers.  This resulted in the single being listed as #3 on the Spotify Viral Chart. Now that’s impressive.

The first track Warm was given the right title. The steady beat, piano and background music—combined with Lewis’ soothing vocals—give this song a warm and inviting sound.  No Less (ft. Louis M^tters) stands out to me for two reasons. For one thing, it sounds as if it is a continuation of Warm. It’s as though the first track never stopped but continued with a different set of lyrics to the same song. The second thing is that although both tracks sound quite similar, No Less has a rhythm that seems to rapidly stop and start up again in the beginning.

The instrumental and upbeat Absent starts off with a very eerie sound that almost sounds a bit ethereal. I have to admit, it sent a chill up my spine. Closing out the album is the title track Shivers (ft. JP Cooper). This has a rhythm and blues feel to it, giving it a sweet and smooth sound. Although this song is titled Shivers, you will feel at ease and relaxed while listening to this song.

The upside to Shivers is that it has a unique blend of sounds. That makes it an album people will want to listen to. Now here comes the downside. Warm and No Less sound as if they were merged into one song. Instead of two separate songs, we have the same song, but different lyrics.

Shivers is a unique EP and Lewis’ fans will enjoy it, but if the first and second songs sound as if they are flowing onto one track, it may make them wonder which song they’re listening to now. While I did enjoy listening to the first track, it would have been even better if the two songs had their own sound.

Final Grade: D
