UB40 featuring Ali Campbell with Astro & Mickey Virtue, the founding members of the legendary reggae/pop ensemble that blazed a multicultural musical path with such global hits as “Red Red Wine” and “(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You,” reminds audiences that though they survived the area’s hottest month in recent memory, summer’s still here, with a concert in the Music Center at Strathmore on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 8 p.m.
UB40 will perform their signature high-energy, funky music backed by an 11-piece touring ensemble, complete with a three-piece horn section. The band that defined reggae/pop for a generation will showcase enduring hits from their canon of songs, including “Kingston Town,” “Food for Thought,” and others. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (301) 581-5100 or visit www.strathmore.org.
The concert is preceded by a Party on the Patio, with live music, as well as drink specials and catering provided by Ridgewells, beginning at 6:15 p.m.
Formed in 1979, UB40 transformed their working class roots into a global clarion call, cultivating an impressive 29-year career with the original bandmates intact. The pioneering reggae troupe topped the UK singles chart on three occasions, earned multiple Grammy nominations, and sold 70 million records worldwide as they took their smooth, roots-driven musical blend to all corners of the globe.
