New York based electronica band Telepathe (pronounced “telepathy”) is making waves with their album Destroyer. Their album was mixed by Matty Green and inspired by California Sci-fi. As a science fiction fan, I can truly appreciate the decision to give this album a sci-fi sound. The sound effects combined with the futuristic music make this album fun and exciting. Telepathe’s fans—especially fans of the science fiction genre—will be able to rock out to each track.
The opening track Damaged Raid has an awesome beat that will bring the fans to the dance floor. The title track Destroyer is dark and a little eerie, but that’s what gives the track its charm. While Drowning Around Me has a seemingly gloomy title, it is upbeat in tempo and the sound effects are absolutely awesome. Although I can’t see myself repeating F*ck You Up in public, the chorus has an amazing tempo and that makes it hard to resist. Hyper Ho is a techno dream that is hypnotic and has a steady beat that the fans can really get into. Nights Spell is slower in tempo and will leave the fans in a trance.
Onyx is pop versus electronica and techno and full of energy. Slow Learner is a light-hearted melody. The quick paced drums and background vocals make it an awesome dance track. Someone is Home has an 80’s techno-synth sound. For those of you who loved the new wave music in the 80’s, this song is just for you. Throw Away This is different from the rest. This track is unique as it is the only one that begins with a brief spoken word and that the drums add a retro feel to the track. Both make Throw Away This one of the most memorable songs on this album.
Telepathe has a unique sound that is all their own and that is what makes it awesome. Whether you like R & B, blues, jazz or anything else in between, this is an album you will want to listen to. I was not familiar with the electronica genre, but after listening to Destroyer, I think I have become a fan. If this album is of any indication, their future recordings will be just as amazing.
