If you are into rock and roll, Strange Faces’ new album “Stonerism” is the perfect album for you. The North Carolina lo-fi rock group’s sound is reminiscent of rock music from the 1950’s through 1970’s and is just awesome to listen to. Produced by Cadien James of the band Twin Peaks, “Stonerism” is a jam session waiting to happen.
Let’s start with “I Saw Your Face”. The energetic guitars will make you feel as though you were front and center at the greatest rock and roll concert of your life. If you think the song “Don’t Feel Bad” is going to be a depressing song, think again. This song is filled with excitement and wonder. The guitars and powerful vocals stand out and demand to be heard.
This next track, “Been Waitin’” is as awesome as can be. The powerful beat of the drums and guitar make this a fun song to listen to. “Serenade” starts out slowly and sounds like a slow jam at first. While it has the same rock theme, it’s a little more laid back than the previous tracks. “Still Lit” has an upbeat country-rock and roll sound. Unfortunately, the music drowns out the vocals in this song.
“Why” is a little more laid back than the earlier tracks, but still retains its rock sound. “Such A Drag” is fun to listen to, but is quite a unique track. In “Skippin’ Town”, we hear a booming and forceful guitar riff and later a relaxed and easygoing theme. “Nothin’ To Prove” has a groovy sound. The guitar riffs and steady beats are reminiscent of 70’s rock.
“Brand New Way” is a laid back melody complete with some awesome guitar strumming. We’ve come to the end of the line with the final track “Long Time”. The slowly strummed guitars and drumbeats have the sound of 50’s rock and is a very relaxing song to enjoy.
“Stonerisms” is a fun album. The spirit of rock and roll is truly alive with this album and the fans will not be disappointed. Whether you prefer laid back tunes or tracks that will send you running to the dance floor, this is an album you must have.
