On this edition of SNAPSHOTS, we are delving into the world of music as I talk to an artist who recently release the new single ‘2 Late’ a few weeks ago. She’s ready for the DMV to know her name and her music by the end of our interview.

Let’s welcome to SNAPSHOTS, YNDIANA!

Tell us about your new single ‘2 Late’. Where did the inspiration for this song come from?

“2 Late” was born in Medellín, Colombia, exactly one year ago. Along with it came a lot of situations that definitely came into my life to teach me, transform me, and make me evolve. The inspiration was a romantic breakup.”

What obstacles did you face at the beginning of your career due to personal insecurities and stereotypes in the music industry?

OMG… it’s excellent to have the opportunity to express myself and convey that this personal process I have lived through and continue to experience. We work on being our best version until the last day of our physical presence in this plane. Personally, I found myself immobilized by my insecurities, but time and circumstances have given me the chance to recognize, value, respect, and work on myself. Falling in love with the process, appreciating the opportunity to have people around me who believe in me and resonate with my project, which I consider a blessing. I can say that we set our own limits; all those limiting beliefs are only in our heads, and ultimately, we transmit who we are inside. Believing in oneself and loving unconditionally are fundamental ingredients for any project one wishes to develop. We are in a season where I feel there is more inclusion, and I’m glad that’s the case.

How would you describe the transition from your first experience in Medellín to moving and settling down in Mexico City?

Wow… This transition brings up many emotions. I would never change or replace it, and it’s incredible how I realize more and more that every moment and circumstance is perfect for evolution and personal development. This experience has only shown me that self-confidence is the key to absolutely everything and that enjoying the process is just as important. The process is all we have in the present moment, and beyond focusing solely on the goal and working hard for it, the idea is not to sacrifice your life for a goal and then compromise your health and energy, always wanting more and feeling dissatisfied. Today, I can say that I have the most valuable things in my life: my parents are alive and healthy, a family that loves me, and loyal friends. I have everything! I have great aspirations in music, but I am enjoying each day without expectations.

What impact did the pandemic have on your creative process and on the search for your musical identity?

The pandemic was the genesis of my process in finding my musical identity… It gave me the opportunity and time to fall in love with my sound.

How would you describe your current musical style and how do you think it has developed from your beginnings until now in Mexico City?

I have a particular style; I invest a lot in my project because I handle a quite urban yet very sensual line. It’s fresh, catchy, danceable, romantic, and very personal, as everything I express in my music is either personal experiences or very close to me. This has blessed me with the opportunity to connect with people. You could say I have many styles but a well-defined musical identity. More than a genre, I call it a ‘movement’.

What advice would you give to other young people who are struggling to make their way in the Latin American music industry?

Believe without limits, work on self-love, have clarity on what you want and the message you want to convey. Let love be your driving force, have eyes both in front and behind you, and involve your family in your project because no one can care for, protect, and guide you better than family. My most successful friends in the music industry have their families involved, and it makes a significant difference; it saves you time and uncomfortable situations. There’s no need to suffer; don’t let anyone disrespect you; uphold your values and principles, cling to God so that no one can steal your dreams. If you have such a powerful tool as communication, use it to spread a message of love; love transforms, heals, and is magic.

Now that you’re in Washington DC promoting yourself, what plans do you have for this new phase of your career and what do you hope to achieve in this new environment?

I’m really enjoying this stage in this wonderful city. I feel happy and have been very well-received by the American audience, which is like a dream come true for me, since not long ago I only dreamed of singing in the United States but didn’t have songs. I’m improving my English because I plan to have songs in English. In addition to promoting here in Washington, I’m sharing my story wherever I go and I’m managing to inspire people through my music and experiences, which makes me very happy. They have treated me very nicely, they have connected a lot with the songs, and even though sometimes they don’t understand the lyrics, music has no language… you can feel it.
