Princess Century’s new album “Progress” is colorful and very creative. Born Maya Postepski, the Canadian DJ and remix artist has performed with the electronic bands Austra and TRUST. In addition to performing with TRUST, she has also co-written and produced their album “TRST.” This time around, Postepski emerges as a solo artist with sound that’s completely all her own. Her synthpop style is unique and one that the fans will love listening to. If you love synthesizers and the awesome sounds they make, then you’re going to jump for joy when you hear this album.
Remember that cool music that you heard in some of your favorite sci-fi films? Well, that’s what “Bros vs. UFOs” should remind you of. This song has an eerie and calm theme, and sci-fi fans will no doubt enjoy it. The sound effects in “Sunscream” are awesome. The synthesizer and drum beats are just amazing. The drums in “Tokyo Hands” are so hypnotic and the echoes and tambourine make this song an amazing experience.
The percussion in “Sheughnessy” gives it a feeling of mystery. Although disco was popular in the 1970’s, the track “Sunrise 101/Last Disco” has been given a 2015 makeover. The synthesizer has a way of making this a danceable song and one that fans of the disco genre will love. Closing out this album is the final track “Metro.” There’s so much mystery here. The synthesizers and the percussion make the song seem so ethereal but attention grabbing at the same time.
I’m a huge, huge fan of synthesizers. Having owned one growing up, I understand how magical it can be to create one song after another on such an elegant instrument. To create an entire album using the synthesizer is something I find absolutely impressive. I love how different each track is from the last. I hope Princess Century records more albums like this.
