Indie-rock group The Motel Beds has been rocking our worlds since their 2004 debut album Hasta Mañana” The Dayton, Ohio band was formed in 2001 and briefly disbanded in 2005, only to return four years later with a new guitarist. With a slightly new lineup, The Motel Beds has released a number of albums for their fans to enjoy, including their upcoming album Mind Glitter.
The background vocals and soft strumming of the guitar make Open Ocean seem so peaceful, but the rough drums and guitar solo halfway through have a rock and roll sound that makes it fantastic. The lively A.O.O. is the kind of song you party hard to. The cheerful approval of the audience in the softly played Queens of the Summer is definitely a little different than any song I’ve ever heard. Although I would expect that this song would be met with applause, it is certainly a pleasure to actually hear it.
The titular track Mind Glitter is sunny and upbeat and should have the audience clapping and singing along. Thirst Veterans starts out with a slightly slower beat, but we are soon treated to an awesome rock session. Given that the title of this track is called 4 a.m., the ticking clock and alarm in the intro are absolutely perfect. The guitar and rapid drumbeats in Too Long make this a song the fans will love with. Paper Trees is sweet and peaceful and the soft and slowly strummed guitar strings make it so relaxing.
For a song called Live City, I expected to hear rock and roll and The Motel Beds did not disappoint. This is one energetic song that lives up to its name. Set Ender initially has a sleepy sound, but later becomes a little more spirited. The eerily titled We’ve Killed More For Less has a soft and relaxed tune.
Mind Glitter is definitely a fun album to listen to. I loved the applause at the end of Queens of Summer. It was unexpected, but that’s what made it great. All of these songs have something that makes them fun and exciting, and that’s what this album is. The name Mind Glitter certainly comes across as something fun and enjoyable, and I’m sure the fans will think so too.
