The Nashville based indie rock band Moon Taxi has a style that’s all their own and their new album Daybreaker is just as unique as they are. They started out in 2006 while they were attending Belmont University. They started performing at clubs and parties and they’ve been going strong ever since. They made their television debut on The Tonight Show with David Letterman in 2013 and performed their song The New Black on Conan O’Brien’s talk show Conan a year later. If you loved their live performances and their albums, then you will love Daybreaker.
Let’s start the rock session with the first track Year Zero. This is one of those songs that make you want to raise a lighter in the air and rock back and forth to the music. Make Your Mind Up is fun to listen to and has an awesome rhythm. All Day All Night has just the right tempo. It’s nice and easy and has a relaxing beat, but it’s also a great song to dance to. The guitar playing between verses in Run Right Back has a distinctive style. That, along with the soft rhythms, make this song a dreamy melody that you can’t help but love.
Savannah has such an awesome sound. Ready to Go is upbeat and the background vocals give the song outstanding energy. Who’s to Say? has a strong beat the audience will want to dance to.
Whereas the earlier tracks were more upbeat, Always has a slower beat and has a softer sound. The slow drum beats and guitar in Domino give it a dark but beautiful sound. If you’re in the mood to have your own rock session, Red Lights may be just the right song. Rooftops is softly played and very relaxing. What a wonderful way to end an album.
For those of you who love rock and roll, I am certain that you will enjoy listening to this album. Daybreaker is fun to listen to and it’s one of those albums you just have to have in your music collection. From the upbeat Ready to Go to the relaxed Rooftops, Daybreaker has something for everyone to enjoy.
