Formed by singer Katy Goodman, indie band La Sera released their self-titled album in February 2011 and later toured with singer-actress Jenny Lewis, Father John Misty, Kate Nash, The Julie Ruin and King Tuff. The Los Angeles natives are now getting ready to release their new album “Music For Listening to Music To” on March 4th. While we wait for the album’s release, let’s sit back and chat about “Music For Listening to Music To”.
What better song to start out this review than “High Notes”. The upbeat guitar and harmonica duet are truly uplifting to hear. “A Thousand Ways” is a sweetly played love song that is heart warming and is the perfect song to slow dance to. Although “One True Love” involves a man’s true love leaving him, the guitars, tambourine and drums have an energetic sound that makes the song fun and less heartbreaking. “Begins to Rain” has a smooth sound that’s both an easy listening and has a hint of rock and roll. “Take My Heart” has such a romantic title, and the slow guitar-strumming drumbeat echo the sweetness of the song. The upbeat rock track “I Need an Angel” is full of energy and the fans will enjoy dancing to the fast-paced rhythm.
The guitar and rapid-fire drumbeats in “Time To Go” will cause your heart to race while you dance to the rhythm. The album starts to slow down into a more relaxed rhythm with “Shadow of your Love”. The softly strummed guitar compliments the soft vocals in the track. “Nineties” will have you reminiscing about the 90’s and what you were doing then. “Too Little Too Late” finishes out the album with the soothing guitar and slow drum beat. This track may not be one to dance to, but it has a beautiful melody.
I had fun listening to this album, and all of you will too. Each of these tracks had their own personality and that is what made them so amazing. Whether you are rocking out to the spirited “High Notes” or enjoying the mellow “Shadow of Your Love”, you’re going to be in for a great time. Keep a look out for “Music For Listening to Music To”.
