To kick off the New Year, TRR was invited to the super entertaining 2024 Dancing with the Stars Live tour featuring current winners of Season 32 Xochitl Gomez (a true Swiftie fan in her DWTS Era) and Pro Dancer Val Chmerkovskiy (who also won Seasons 20, 23 and in his Hot Dad Bod Era). Other tour dancers included the following: Pasha Pashkov, Daniella Karagach, Brandon Armstrong, Gleb Savchenko, Alan Bersten, and Rylee Arnold.
The marvelous The Theater at MGM National Harbor was their second stop as they began their journey from Richmond, Virginia. This time our seating was located in Orchestra Section 105, row AA, seat 1 and 2. Some of the performances were hard to see on stage from the angles, but luckily MGM provided large TV screens. Once again, the tour host was DWTS Season 24 Winner British sensation Emma Slater but most would know that her dance partner on the TV show was with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Kyle Richard’s husband Mauricio Umansky.
Anyway, the dance costumes were super sexy, lots of sequins, and bold colors at times. Look for a Taylor Swift theme group dance, lots of inside jokes of creating the best dancer through science, and a chance for an audience fan to be chosen to dance on stage.
Special kudos to the tour’s Director and Choreographer, Mandy Moore who happens to be the first choreographer who choreographed the Golden Globes, Academy Awards, and Emmys in the same year! The stage production design was by Paul Tate DePoo III. It reminded me of an old Hollywood 40s jazz supper club with round tables and chairs, staircases, and several light fixtures. (Warning: depending on where your seats are located you might want to bring “sunglasses” because at times the production lights were blinding)
The show runs about two hours with a slight intermission to get additional snacks, drinks, or visit the merch table where we grabbed the official programs (cost about 25 dollars). My favorite dancers and moments of the show (without giving away too many spoilers) was definitely any dance Britt Stewart performed (who recently got engaged over the holidays to her DWTS Season 31 Celebrity dance partner CODA Actor Daniel Durant) as well as the dynamic dance duo Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy which was sealed by a kiss on stage!
The 2024 tour will run until almost the end of March with special guest appearances by DWTS Co-Host Julianne Hough, Australian Reality Star Harry Jowsey, The Bachelorette Charity Lawson, etc. For more information and tickets, check out www.dwtstour.com.
