Djo performed a sold-out show at The Anthem this week during his first show in the DC area. The “End of Beginning” singer embarked on the Back on You World Tour in February, marking his first ever tour. Psychedelic-rock group Post Animal joined Djo to open nearly every show of the Back on You World Tour, highlighting a special connection between the headliner and the opening act. Djo was formerly a member of Post Animal, so his ties with the group run deep.
Djo, the alter ego of actor Joe Keery, rose to fame with his role as Steve Harrington in “Stranger Things”. His song “End of Beginning” went incredibly viral in 2024 and launched his music career into the mainstream. His first tour was highly anticipated, with the show at The Anthem selling out within days of tickets going on sale. The Massachusetts actor and musician recently released his third studio album, The Crux, which features singles including “Basic Being Basic” and “Delete Ya”.
Post Animal is a psychedelic-rock group with a sound reminiscent of Tame Impala, but with a slower tune. The band consists of members Dalton Allison, Jake Hirshland, Javi Reyes, Wesley Toledo, and Matt Williams. The Chicago group was formed in 2014, and has released three albums and three extended plays since then. They have a fairly distinct sound, with many songs featuring extended guitar features. Their fourth album, IRON, is scheduled to be released this July.
Prior to his “Stranger Things” break, Joe Keery was a member of Post Animal, playing guitar and drums for their first album before switching to guitar and vocals. His acting commitments led to his departure from the band and shift to solo music. Despite the departure, Keery and Post Animal have continued to collaborate musically. During the encore, Djo brought Post Animal back onstage to perform “Flash Mountain”.
The tour began in New Zealand and will span three continents before wrapping up in England this June. Djo recently announced the Another Bite Tour, which will see him back in the DC area in September for the All Things Go music festival. Post Animal will join him as the opener for all non-festival shows on both tours.
