The DC Rollergirls is a fun way to spend a few hours. The set up of the venue is clever and lends itself to a family outing atmosphere or a date night.
There is a poster making station, which I thought was very smart and fun. A silent auction to support the “girls” for venue rental and travel expenses. There’s the venue concessions which feature a variety of typical fare. There is also a “bake sale” table with all sorts of goodies that are homemade to entice you. A huge t-shirt/souvenir table and fun stuff like that. There’s a live band for down moments and constant popular music playing the whole time.
The derby consists of two bouts, lasting approximately 2.5 hours total. Every derby switches up the competitors. This set of bouts had the DC DemonCats against the Cherry Blossom Bombshells, with the DemonCats taking the win. Bout 2 saw Scare Force One takedown the Majority Whips in a tight battle. I highly suggest that you peruse some derby rules and lingo before you go, but it is not mandatory in order to have a good time.
