A documentary film of the groundbreaking exhibition David Bowie is, created by the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), London, will be screened at the Angelika Mosaic on September 23 at 7: 00p.m. to coincide with the exhibition o pening at the Museum of Contem porary Art in Chicago (MCA). A select 100 theaters across th e US will exclusively screen t he film.
Described by The Times as “ stylish & outrageous” and The Guardian as “a triumph”, the e xhibition features a remarkabl e collection of photographs, s tage costumes, and other rare possessions from the David Bow ie Archive. The
exhibition was the fastest selling in the V&A’s history and is now on a global tour that has already travelled to Toronto, Sao Pau lo, and Berlin to universal ac claim, opening next at the MCA in Chicago until January 4 20 15.
The film takes the audience on an extraordinary journey thro ugh the David Bowie is exhibit ion with special guests includ ing legendary Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto, Pul p front‐man Jarvis Cocker, and other collaborators, to explore the stories behind som e of the key objects that docu ment Bowie’s artistic career. The exhibition curators, Victo ria Broackes and Geoffrey Mars h, provide fascinating insight into the most memorable music videos and original costumes, as well as more pers onal items such as never‐ befo re‐seen handwritten lyrics, al bum cover artwork, set designs and diary entries, which reve al the creativity and evolutio n of Bowie’s ideas.
The documentary was filmed on the closing night of the V&A e xhibition in London and direct ed by Done & Dusted’s Hamish H amilton, the BAFTA winning dir ector of the Academy Awards an d the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
