Before hitting the UK part of their Fall Tour in a few days, the band Brand New gave their diehard fans exactly what the DMV has been waiting for. Head lining their own tour, minus Modest Mouse, the guys headed by Jesse Lacey had a killer show at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, VA.
Opening the tour is Modern Baseball and The Front Bottoms. Brand New took to the stage around 9pm and immediately ran through hit after hit from their 2006 LP, The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me. Last month, Brand New released a new EP called 3 Demos, Reworked, which followed the release of their new song, “I Am a Nightmare.”
It was great to see Lacey and the guys command the EagleBank Arena stage. The crowd was there to sing line for line on songs like “Tautou” & “Limousine.” The crowd was lucky to get some really key memorable moments, like having not one but two drummers playing in unison on several songs. It fit perfectly with the vibe the emo band wanted to relay.
As the band made their final thank you’s to the crowd, I was thinking they have made a hell of a comeback. A lot of bands can say they broke up and get back together, sell out Madison Square Garden (which isn’t easy) and then headline their own tour, successfully. Lacey has been saying that this is it for Brand New and that their “done.” If this is true, I’m glad I got to witness this journey live.
