Beirut is coming off their fifth studio release No No No which was released on September 11th 2015. They’re kicking off a mini tour in lieu of the album at the Lincoln Theater on November 3rd, with the tour ending November 28th in Mexico City. The tour also includes dates in Toronto, Chicago and Boston.
Beirut has a very pronounced horns section that along with Zach Condon’s singing is hard to mistake. It’s a different approach the blend of both mariachi and eastern European sounds. You normally wouldn’t hear a combination of music like that based on the cultures geographic location. I guess it’s good to be well traveled because you can take those sounds with you and if you love the culture you will want to express that in your music. You’ll be surprised though just how similar mariachi and Balkan Gypsy folk music they can be. Both have a complex rhythm and both feature extensive use of different types of horns. That almost always makes for a great live performance.
