GALA Hispanic Theatre will celebrate its milestone 50th anniversary with its annual Noche de Estrellas benefit gala on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 6:30 to 10:30 PM, hosted across two of
Washington, D.C.’s most iconic cultural venues: the Spanish Cultural Center and the Mexican Cultural Institute. This year’s golden anniversary event will honor two distinguished leaders whose impact reflects GALA’s enduring mission: Edward James Olmos, Academy Award-nominated actor, director, and humanitarian, will receive the Artistic Excellence & Advocacy Award for his extraordinary contributions to film, television, and Latino representation.

Edward James Olmos has built a remarkable career spanning more than five decades, with iconic roles in Stand and Deliver, Miami Vice, Blade Runner, and Battlestar Galactica. His portrayal of Jaime Escalante earned him a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination. Beyond his artistic achievements, Olmos is a passionate advocate for education, social justice, and Latino visibility, using his platform to uplift communities and inspire future generations.

A distinguished city official will also be recognized with the Commitment to the Arts and Community Development Award for longstanding dedication to the arts and the Washington, D.C. community. Proceeds from Noche de Estrellas support GALA’s artistic and youth education programs, including Paso Nuevo, a free, year-round initiative that empowers Latino and multicultural teens through theater, mentorship, and leadership development. As GALA celebrates 50 years of impact, these programs remain central to its mission—serving thousands of students and families across the region and fostering the next generation of artists and leaders.

The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and silent auction at the Spanish Cultural Center, featuring curated experiences, luxury items, and exclusive packages. Guests will then transition to the Mexican Cultural Institute for a seated dinner, live auction, live performances, awards presentation, and dancing.

This year’s program will feature a star-studded retrospective performance showcasing celebrated artists including Anamer Castrello, Vicky Leyva, and Samuel Garnica, along with powerful Paso Nuevo impact stories that highlight the transformative work of GALA’s youth programs. The evening will be hosted by Master of Ceremonies Alejandro Negrón, with Mauricio Pita serving as live auctioneer, and will include both silent and live auctions offering unique and memorable experiences.

The black-tie event will welcome distinguished guests from across the region, including ambassadors, elected officials, cultural leaders, corporate partners, and members of the arts community.
