Pierce the Veil brought their highly anticipated tour to the DMV with a massive show at Jiffy Lube Live on Saturday. Their summer tour with longtime collaborators Sleeping with Sirens drew a crowd of nearly 20,000 attendees to the Virginia venue. The I Can’t Hear You World Tour is the band’s largest tour to date, as well as their first solo headlining amphitheater tour. The rock group are joined by Sleeping with Sirens and Daisy Grenade as the support acts on this tour.

Daisy Grenade opened the show with a highly energetic set. Mentored by Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, the New York duo blends pop-punk with a preppy, bubblegum vibe. Their energetic set featured a mix of original music, unreleased deep cuts, and even a ‘pop goes punk’ rendition of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Taste”. The duo ended their run on the I Can’t Hear You Tour in Pennsylvania on Sunday, and will join Honey Revenge on their upcoming tour at the end of the week.

Sleeping with Sirens kicked off their set with a handful of songs off their older albums. Having toured heavily for their 2022 album Complete Collapse, their setlist for this tour was more of a greatest hits compilation. The Michigan-based rockers formed in 2009 and currently feature frontman Kellin Quinn, bassist Justin Hills, guitarist Nick Martin, drummer Matty Best and touring guitarist Tony Pizzuti. The rock group’s discography falls into several subcategories of the genre, including pop-punk, screamo and metalcore. Their 11-song set featured some of their best-known hits, including 2011’s “If You Can’t Hang”. They had the crowd revved up within minutes of taking the stage and crowd surfers were up in the air just a few songs into the set.

Pierce the Veil closed out the night with a loud, luminous set that encapsulated the best of their massive career. Pierce the Veil formed nearly 20 years ago in California, the musical project of brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes. 19 years and five albums later, the band has seen some lineup changes and now features frontman Vic Fuentes, Tony Perry on guitar, Jaime Preciado on bass and Lionel Robinson as their touring drummer. Following a seven-year hiatus, Pierce the Veil returned in 2023 with their album, The Jaws of Life. They have embarked on multiple tours in the past few years, and recently performed in the DMV-area last summer while opening for
Blink-182.

Pierce the Veil and Sleeping with Sirens are no strangers, having collaborated several times in the two decades of their music careers. Having played countless shows together during their Warped Tour days, the two groups are leaders of the pop-punk scene. Kellin Quinn returned to the stage to the delight of the crowd to end the show with their duet, “King For A Day”.

Pierce the Veil will continue to travel the world on the I Can’t Hear You World Tour through mid- December. Sleeping with Sirens will remain on the tour through the beginning of July, and will play a handful of festivals in October.

Final grade: A+
