Our very own local actor and founder of TRR, Dean Rogers, who has played Starfleet officer Roy Morris in the “Starship Farragut” franchise, has just announced today that he will be leaving the project after eighteen years.
Rogers has started his run as Starfleet officer Roy Morris in the second Farragut episode, “For Want of a Nail,” but not as an actor. According to the actor, he was a still photographer during the American Revolution era day shoot, taking behind-the-scenes stills on a cold March day in 2007. A few weeks later, he got the call that would change his life in fandom.

He was asked to come up to Ticonderoga, NY on the weekend of May 26, 2007, to film the bridge scenes on the former “Star Trek: New Voyages” sets. He agreed, as Star Trek was the show that he and his mom had watched together growing up. During that weekend, he was given a Starfleet command uniform, a few lines, and made his mark in Trek lore as their helmsman. The crew asked him to come up with a name for the newly minted Ensign. He chose the name of Roy Morris, a U.S. Naval officer who served as a Navy JROTC senior instructor and a great mentor to him. Since that episode, Rogers has appeared in every episode right until the series finale of “Homecoming,” which was shot in 2016 but released in 2021. Rogers’s talents were not limited to being on camera. He had behind the scenes as a script supervisor, media relations specialist, clap loader, assistant director of photography, and associate producer, among other roles. His last involvement with the franchise was shooting a couple of promos for the Indiegogo campaign for “Farragut Forward” in 2023 & the Shore Leave 44 convention in 2024.
When asked why he was stepping down after nearly two decades, Dean stated, “With the new direction that ‘Farragut 2024’ was taking, I felt that Morris was being underutilized after rising through the ranks over the years. As such, I feel that it’s time to move on and pursue better opportunities.”
