College football has started and a new era has begun at College Park. Taulia Tagovaiola is gone and Billy Edwards Jr. steps into the starting quarterback role. Maryland had many questions as to how well Edwards could do as Tagovaiola was a cornerstone for a Terps team that had three bowl wins in the past 3 years. Edwards contributed as he guided the Terps to a Music City Bowl win in 2023.
Edwards threw for 311 yards as the Terps routed the Huskies 50 to 7. Tai Felton caught seven passes for 178 yards as well.
On the other side of the ball, the Terps defense held UConn scoreless until the 3rd quarter as TJ Sheffield caught a 27 yard pass for a touchdown. The was the only bright spot for a dismal Huskies defense as 2 players, Jordan Wright in the second quarter and Rante Jones in the fourth, were ejected for targeting.
This win was the Terps 13th straight nonconference win and they play their first Big 10 opponent, Michigan State next week.
