On a fabulous Fat Tuesday night (March 5, 2019) I thoroughly enjoyed my first-time experience dining and dancing at Pearl Street Warehouse (PSW). According to their website, PSW showcases rock, country, folk, soul, bluegrass, rhythm, and blues acts from around the country; offering every seat in the house a front row experience.

Every PSW staff was extremely attentive, greeted me with a smile, and the interior décor was super fantastical-festive with fun beads at every table and mask-type glasses.

Since I was on a budget and couldn’t afford airline tickets to New Orleans for Mardi gras, I was excited to hear about the free concert featuring The Crawdaddies but first I ordered some finger-licking yummy beignets with a side of hurricanes. Not bad for less than twenty-five dollars.

So who are The Crawdaddies?! The Crawdaddies are, multi-talented Kraig Greff, accordion, piano, and Hammond B3; the sensational Chris Huntington, vocals, guitar; sexy John Kane, vocals, spoonful-playa wash boarder, acoustic guitar; rockin’ Rod Gross, drums and the incredible Jay Turner, bass, vocals. With over twenty years of touring musical festivals, colleges, and theaters, The Crawdaddies are also an award winning band with a high energy mix of roots rock, cajun, zydeco, ska, and blues hailing from the Baltimore/DC area.

The Crawdaddies released their fifth full-length recording entitled “Lagniappe” in January 2017. The band’s CDs, Lagniappe, Live from the Road, Keep Lookin’ Up, Accordions Are Cool and Spice It Up; receiving regular rotation on college radio, internet radio and broad-format “triple A” radio stations worldwide.

The Crawdaddies started the show promptly at 8:00 pm and filled PSW with the most funkadelic sounds with many in the audience dressed with colorful wigs, an assortment of beads, and masks. Their musicality was on point and got the diners “shaking and baking” to their “Faith” lyrics as the lead singer kept tossing out more and more beads to the audience even without the famous “flashing” tradition. They played about a dozen songs before they took their first intermission. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay for the whole show since I had “church” the next morning but I would definitely buy tickets to see this band next time and I will be inviting all my dancing buddies.

Final Rating: A-
