If I say the name “Free Pizza”, would you automatically think I’m getting a free pizza from a popular restaurant? As awesome as that would be, that’s not exactly what I’m talking about. Coming to you from South America and currently based in Nashville, Free Pizza is a band who has kept quite busy in recent years. Spring of 2014 saw the release of their debut LP, “Boston, MA” on New England’s BUFU and Feeding Tube Records and June of this year brought us their new album “Berlin, DE”. No doubt you have already gotten your copy, but just in case you haven’t yet, let’s chat a bit about “Berlin, DE”.

Let’s start this rock session with the first track “Dancing”. This is a rock track that would be perfect for an outstanding day at the beach. The upbeat track “Juliet” is a song has the singer wishing the young woman in the song well and reminiscing about her reading his fortune. We all know that “Patience” is a virtue, but that might not apply here. This song is an unusual one, in that we hear the tale of a frustrated young man boiling vegetables in a pot. His suggestion that “maybe I should go upstairs” indicates that the water would boil a little faster, possibly making reference to the expression “a watched pot does not boil”.

“The Fall” is a fun and energetic track with an awesome guitar solo in between verses. Much like the previous tracks on this album, “Fortune and Faith” is a song that we can all dance to. The epic guitar strumming throughout the song is one that budding musicians will want to try emulating. “Sighing” is up-tempo, but there’s a significantly different sound to it. Unlike the previous tracks, this seems to have a darker tone, but still easy to enjoy. Now, we’ve come to the end of the review with the final song “Slipping”. It’s a bit calmer in melody and has a relaxing and sweet sound.

“Berlin, DE” is a great album to listen to while partying on the beach. It will make you want to dance, and you’ll have a blast listening to each song. “Berlin, DE” is a rock concert just waiting to happen, and I for one want to be first in line.

Final Grade: A
