I have seen this show almost every Summer for the last fifteen! Steve Miller, never disappoints. Some people get bothered by seeing the same thing or hearing the same sound, but I say that I LOVE the consistency. You know exactly what kind of concert you are going to get. A real rock concert…what is wrong with that?
The night started off with, “Jungle Love”, “Take The Money  and Run”, “Nobody Loves You Like The Way I Do”, and “Abracadabra”. It was really one hit after another, then Sonny Charles took centerstage for a bit. We delved into some music from their 2010 & 2011 releases Bingo! and Let Your Hair Down. “Ooh Poo Pah Doo” and “All Your Love (I Miss Loving)” are songs that are a departure from Miller’s early works from the 70’s, but they too have become favorites and songs that I look forward to every year. Sonny Charles, who joined the band in 2008, lends his charm to the show with his lead vocals and infectious dance moves. The only original member is Miller himself, but when you’re Steve Miller, who else do you need? He has assembled a great group of musicians to accompany him, though. The middle of the show brought the now traditional, extended version of, “Fly Like An Eagle” with keyboardist, Joseph Wooten performing a phenomenal solo. He used to perform an awesome rap solo, but for some reason that has been discontinued?! Between that and no performance of, “True Fine Love” I was sad. That is my favorite SMB song and he hasn’t performed it in years. 🙁
Steve Miller has tremendous talent and his voice is the same as it was when he debuted in 1967. He transcends all ages. I saw concert goers of all ages enjoying themselves in the almost sold out crowd. They only performed for one night this year, so be aware for next year that tickets may sell out early!
Since it is the 40th Anniversary of The Joker album, they performed some songs that are not traditionally on the set list, but that is what makes a live concert so good. We heard, “Lovin’ Cup”, “Sugar Babe”, “Mary Lou”, and “Something To Believe In”, which made for a nice change.  They finished off with an encore of five more songs, “The Joker” being the true finale, of course! When they come to Wolf Trap next year, be sure and get your tickets and I’ll see you there!!
Overall Concert: A, they need to bring back, “True Fine Love” and then they will get their “+” lol. But seriously, it is an A+ event. If you like SMB, you must make this concert a tradition. I wish they would come out to sign autographs though!
Venue: A+, it was a beautiful night out. Parking was smooth sailing.
