The ninth episode of FOX’s 9-1-1 is entitled “Trapped.” This week episode revolves around victims as well are core characters either being trapped or feeling trapped. Opening with a homeless man, becoming trapped in a trash compactor. It was an exciting way to start the episode, but I’m curious to know how a homeless man, had a cellphone to call for help. Luckily he’s rescued by the dynamic duo of Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Buck (Oliver Stark).
The second incident involves a feuding mom and son, who become trapped in an elevator. The elevator breaks down and is slowly making its way to a flooded basement! Despite almost not making out himself, Buck once again saves the day. The final incident involves two brothers who happen to be hoarders, who are living in fear, someone was trying to rob them. The brothers have created such a mess that there is no way to get into the house, not to mention the booby traps they’ve set. Chimney (Kenneth Choi) ends up having to crawl through tunnels to rescue the brothers, in what was my favorite call of the show.
After all of the calls are out of the way, the writers shift the focus to our core characters. Abby (Connie Britton) and Buck decide to have their second date in a Hot Air Balloon, but it’s cut short when Abby’s mom has an incident. While I was looking forward to seeing Abby & Buck on date #2, the trapped element played well into their storyline. Abby feels trapped by her mother, while Buck is scared to become trapped with Abby because of her mom. It’s a great dynamic between the two and kudos to the writers for the handling of the storyline.
Of course, it’s not a 9-1-1 without some action from my favorite character Athena (Angela Bassett). After not having a chance to cut loose this season, Athena meets up with the gentlemen she met on last week’s episode for a second date. Things take a humorous turn when they decide to try out Athena’s handcuffs. It was refreshing to see Athena, in this situation and who knew Angela could pull off a comedic situation so well.
“Trapped “also find Hen, trying to get out of her situation with her ex. Hen, warns her that she won’t allow her to trap her in any situation. “Trapped” ends on a sad, not as Abby’s mother ends up passing away her in sleep, so it will be interesting to see how this plays into Buck & Abby’s relationship.
The ninth episode of 9-1-1 is another winner for the FOX series, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they have in store for next week’s season finale.
